YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - Two Yuba-Sutter nonprofit organizations received a combined $7,500 in community grants from Skylight Renewable Energy to support home accessibility improvements and food distribution programs.
The grants, awarded during the third quarter of 2026, will benefit Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter and Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank. The organizations will use the funding to assist seniors, individuals with disabilities and families experiencing food insecurity.
Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter will direct its funding toward its Accessibility & Aging in Place program, which helps seniors and individuals with disabilities make modifications to their homes so they can continue living independently.
"Everyone deserves the opportunity to live safely and independently in the place they call home," said Camille Benner, director of family services at Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter.
"For seniors and individuals with disabilities, even small accessibility improvements can be life-changing," Benner said. "We are deeply grateful to Skylight Renewable Energy for investing in our community and helping us remove barriers that too often stand between our Sutter County neighbors and their independence."
Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank will use its grant to support its Food Recovery & Community Distribution Program. The program collects surplus food and distributes it to individuals and families facing food insecurity throughout Yuba and Sutter counties.
"This support will allow us to recover and distribute more nutritious food to children, families, seniors, veterans, and other neighbors facing food insecurity," said Maria Ball, executive director of Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank. "We are grateful for Skylight Renewable Energy's continued investment in our efforts to build a healthier community."
Skylight Renewable Energy is a solar and battery storage project that Vesper Energy is developing in Sutter County. According to the company, the project is expected to generate electricity, support economic development and provide long-term local tax revenue once operational.
The project team continues to work with community stakeholders to identify opportunities for local investment.
