YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - The skeletons have escaped their closets, pumpkins are taking over front porches and Halloween is creeping closer. But for those who haven't gotten their fill of spooky season, there's still plenty of time to celebrate.

From terrifying homemade attractions to family-friendly festivities, here's where to find the scares, sweets and seasonal fun through Halloween and beyond.

Haunted Houses

Some of the area's most elaborate haunts are hiding in plain sight, including a residential garage in Yuba City. At 441 Pelican Place, Corey Ringseth has transformed his property into the Yuba City Haunted House, featuring live actors, elaborate sets and jump scares. This year's production, "Sandman," transports visitors to the 1950s and into the home of a fictional serial killer. The free attraction runs Oct. 23-25 and 30 from 7 to 10 p.m. and is not recommended for children younger than 13.

Meanwhile, Easterseals Superior California presents "A Spooky Family Affair," inspired by television's most beloved spooky families. The attraction is designed and brought to life by participants in the organization's ACE IT III program, who construct sets, create costumes and perform for visitors. The event provides an opportunity for adults with disabilities to showcase their creativity and connect with the community. Located at 1670 Sierra Ave., Suite 601, in Yuba City, the attraction runs Oct. 26-30 from 10 a.m. to noon, with additional evening hours Oct. 29-31 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Those seeking a less frightening Halloween experience may consider House of Boo in downtown Marysville. Located at 319 Third St., the interactive attraction is designed for children ages 7 and younger, featuring sensory activities, crawl tunnels and blacklight paint splattering. Open Thursdays through Saturdays from 4 to 7 p.m. through October, admission starts at $5 per child.

Harvest Time

For traditional fall fun, Bishop's Pumpkin Farm, 1415 Pumpkin Lane in Wheatland, offers pumpkins, corn mazes, farm attractions and seasonal treats through Nov. 15. Admission is free, although parking and attraction fees may apply.

For a smaller farm experience, Bishop & Company Farm, 1234 40 Mile Road in Wheatland, offers U-pick heirloom pumpkins and a display of scarecrows created by local youth organizations. The family-owned farm is open Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 31.

Families looking for a free pumpkin can visit the Sutter County Sheriff's Posse Annual Pumpkin Giveaway on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at noon at 56 Second St. in Yuba City. The annual event offers free pumpkins and crafts for local children.
