Workers put the finishing touches on the exterior of the Tri-Counties Community Center in Marysville as part of a major renovation project that includes a new roof, siding and accessible entryways.
MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - After months of construction and community support, the Tri-Counties Community Center is preparing to unveil its newly renovated exterior with a free community barbecue Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The celebration will mark the completion of the first phase of a major renovation project while inviting residents, businesses and community partners to help bring the next phase to life.
Located at 1830 B St. in Marysville, the nonprofit community center has served generations of local residents through recreational activities, educational programs and affordable community events. However, years of deferred maintenance and storm-related damage had threatened the future of the aging facility. Earlier this year, Marysville-based Nor-Cal Siders, led by co-owners Armando Chavez and Victor Ybarra, stepped forward to spearhead an ambitious renovation through its Nor-Cal Step Up community initiative.
“At the end of the day, this is about more than renovating a building,” said Ybarra. “It's about investing in our community and creating something future generations can enjoy and be proud of.”
The newly completed exterior improvements include a replacement roof, new siding, select exterior doors, ADA-accessible sidewalks and entryways, and updated lighting beneath the building's outdoor overhang. Now, organizers are inviting the community to see the results firsthand and learn what's planned for the building's interior.
Nor-Cal Siders will provide barbecue tacos with toppings during the Nov. 7 celebration, while free hot dogs and hamburgers will also be available. Throughout the afternoon, visitors can enjoy demonstrations from several of the center's programs, including archery, gymnastics, fencing, improv and roller skating.
The newly renovated exterior of the Tri-Counties Community Center marks the completion of the first phase of improvements. The center will celebrate with a free community barbecue Nov. 7 while seeking support for its next phase of interior renovations.
Both guided and self-guided tours will offer guests an opportunity to explore the facility and envision its future. Signs created by Sapphire Marketing will help illustrate planned improvements throughout the building, including a new commercial kitchen, a second ballroom and event space, and a more streamlined entrance. The proposed interior improvements are intended not only to modernize the facility but also to create additional revenue opportunities that could help sustain its free and low-cost community programming.
While the exterior renovation represents a significant milestone, organizers emphasize that the project is far from finished. Ybarra, who recently joined the community center's board of directors, said the project holds both personal and professional significance.
“As one of the co-owners of Nor-Cal Siders alongside my amazing partner, Armando Chavez, we're proud to contribute to a project that means so much to our community,” Ybarra said. “Now, as a new board member, being involved carries an even greater meaning for me. It's about having a voice in the center's future and helping create something that will make a lasting difference.”
Ybarra said he hopes the upcoming barbecue will encourage residents and businesses to recognize the center's potential and become involved in the next phase of improvements. Fellow new board member Luis Cordero, a local data analyst who also helps lead the center's improv program, shares that enthusiasm for the facility's future.
“I'm hoping for this project to be a boost for this center, so the community has a beautiful, fun, and inclusive space for the youth and family to spend their evenings,” Cordero said. “This place has a lot of potential.”
The center is now seeking additional sponsors, donors and community partnerships to support the second phase of construction, which will focus on interior improvements. Beyond renovations, board members are also exploring long-term sustainability measures, including solar power, to help offset the facility's ongoing operating expenses. The nonprofit is also actively recruiting new board and advisory members interested in helping guide the center's future and expand its community impact.
The community barbecue is free and open to the public. Businesses and individuals interested in supporting the next phase of renovations can learn more about available sponsorship opportunities at triccmarysville.com/sponsorship-levels.
