Bear River 27, Wheatland 13 - The Pirates dropped their second- straight Pioneer Valley League contest and it won’t be getting any easier for the second half of the season.

Wheatland was outgained by more than 150 yards on offense by Bear River.

The Bruins rushing attack of senior Jaeden Waters and sophomore Carson Schaffner combined for 252 yards on 33 carries. Schaffner found the end zone three times for Bear River.

Pirates senior quarterback Joseph Franklin completed eight passes for 116 yards in the air. Franklin also rushed for 42 yards on nine carries.

The Wheatland offense struggled to get a major push upfront as they averaged 3.3 yards per carry on the night.

Pirates seniors’ Brody Karas and Deo Reed hauled in three passes each from Franklin in the loss and Reed led the way for Wheatland with 54 receiving yards.

The Pirates look to end their three-game skid as they hit the road for the “Battle of 65” and take on Lincoln.

The road team has won the last couple matchups in this series and it’s now a must-win game for Wheatland. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Yuba City 37, McClatchy 6 - The Yuba City Honkers won their third game in a row and continued their quest towards the postseason.

Yuba City handed McClatchy their first loss of the year and dominated the game on all fronts.

Honkers senior quarterback Judah Allen completed nine passes for 193 yards in the air.

Yuba City head coach Jonah Lessard told Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that Allen is playing on a different level that has benefited the team each week.

Honkers senior running back Cody Haase scored all five of the Yuba City touchdowns (four rushing, one receiving) and 123 yards on the ground.

Defensively, the Honkers had 10 tackles for loss, including four sacks and brought the pressure all game.

We have been hard critics on Yuba City so far, we will pay close attention to their road game at Roseville on Friday looking for a significant victory to add to their resume.

Senior quarterback Ayden Hunt displayed an elite night of passing the ball as he completed 17-of-19 passes for 175 yards in the air.

The Huskies defense had big showings from seniors Andrew Barker, Kristian Montero, Deagan Parks, Julian Barrington and Tyler Smith.

Sutter’s remaining four Golden Empire League opponents have a current record of 7-16 with Rio Linda being the only one currently.500 or better.

Johnson (Sacramento) 31, River Valley 18 - The River Valley Falcons fell to .500 in Greater Sacramento League play after they were beaten on the road and fell to Johnson.

River Valley junior running back Kobe Edwards eclipsed 800 rushing yards on the season as he rushed for 175 yards in the loss and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Falcons senior Tendon Bishop had eight tackles and a sack defensively.

River Valley will host Foothill on Friday as a familiar face steps back onto the campus Friday night. Foothill is coached by former head coach Alex Gomes-Coelho.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Center (Antelope) 41, Marysville 14 - Marysville lost its second-straight Pioneer Valley League game as they ran into a hot Center team, which stayed perfect on the season.

Marysville’s offense improved this week as they scored a couple touchdowns after they were shutout by Lincoln the previous week.

Marysville will head to Placer County on Friday and take on Colfax, who was beaten by Oakmont in their first week of PVL play.

East Nicolaus 7, Pierce (Arbuckle) 6 - It was another classic between the East Nicolaus Spartans and the Pierce Bears as a goal-line stand on a two-point conversion was the difference maker in this game.

Both defenses played prolific and displayed how competitive the Sacramento Valley League is a dogfight throughout each week.

East Nicolaus broke the scoreless tie in the third quarter as senior running back Justin Welch ran the ball in for the Spartans.

Pierce was playing without senior quarterback Austin Jorge as he suffered a season-ending injury against Paradise on Sept. 25.

Bears senior Colin Dye stepped into the qb role and head coach Anthony Tapia expressed to YSBC that he couldn’t have been prouder of Dye for doing a solid job.

Dye passed for a 12-yard touchdown with three minutes remaining in the game and Tapia said he elected to go for the win.

Dye was stuffed at the conversion, and East Nicolaus was able to run out the clock to stay perfect after six games this season.

The Spartans host Durham on Friday with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. while the Bears play, I’ll travel to Willows for a 7:30 kickoff.
