YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The Yuba City Police Department recently celebrated the retirement of K9 Rip, who concluded his service after nearly 300 deployments with the department.

During his career, Rip was credited with 13 suspect apprehensions and 136 suspect surrenders. He also conducted 59 article searches, which resulted in the recovery of 29 items of evidence.

Rip served alongside his handler, Officer A. Mitchell, and the pair completed nearly 1,000 hours of continued training together. Rip also served as the department’s SWAT K9. In addition to his regular duties, Rip competed in K9 trials in 2024, 2025 and 2026, earning an overall placing in the 2025 Western States Police K9 Association trial circuit. He was also named YCPD’s K9 of the Year in 2025.

Following his retirement, Rip will transition from police work to life as a family dog.

“Thank you, Rip, for your years of service and dedication,” the department shared in announcing his retirement. “You’ve earned every nap, treat and day of retirement ahead.”
