SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Sacramento International Airport (SMF) will adjust public parking rates when the new Parking Garage 2 opens later this year, supporting a major expansion and modernization of the airport’s parking system.

Daily rates will increase from $12 to $14 for Economy, $14 to $19 for the Daily Lot and $21 to $28 for garage parking. There will be no additional increase in 2027. Beginning Jan. 1, 2028, rates will increase by $1 per year through 2031.

The changes come as SMF adds several new parking amenities, including the six-story, 5,537-space Parking Garage 2 adjacent to Terminal B, parking guidance technology to help drivers find open spaces, new entry and exit equipment with expanded payment options and parking reservations beginning in 2027.

“We know paying more for parking isn’t the part travelers are excited about, but these investments are delivering the improvements our passengers have asked for; more spaces, more covered parking, easier ways to pay and a faster, more predictable parking experience,” said Sheri Thompson Duarte, Deputy Director of Operations and Public Safety. “Our goal is to give travelers more choices and make the start and end of their journey through SMF easier.”

The Department of Airports issued $390 million in new debt for construction of Parking Garage 2. Since FY2021, construction costs have increased 37.6% and airport operating costs have increased by $65.7 million.

Parking is SMF’s largest source of non-airline revenue, generating $77.08 million in FY2024-25. Parking revenue is reinvested in the airport to support operations, infrastructure, debt service and improvements that benefit SMF travelers.

Economy parking will remain the airport’s lowest-cost parking option at $14 per day. Travelers can also use rideshare, passenger drop-off or public transit.
