YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Singers from across the Yuba-Sutter area are being sought for the 88th annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah,” with rehearsals beginning Monday, Sept. 21.

The Yuba Sutter Oratorio Society’s Yuba Sutter Symphony and Chorus will present the annual program during the first weekend of December at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1390 Franklin Road in Yuba City.

Rehearsals will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. each Monday at the church. Organizers are starting rehearsals earlier this year as the chorus prepares to expand the program.

“We are excited to add one or two additional songs to our performance this year, so rehearsals are beginning a couple weeks sooner than usual,” Choral Director Linda Robinson said.

Singers should be high school age or older. Younger singers with sufficient experience may also participate with their parents.

The weekend will include two performances. “Messiah for Kids and Their Families” will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The traditional performance will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Both will take place at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.

Corey Kersting will serve as orchestra and performance conductor.
