SUTTER, CA (YSBC) - The Sutter Huskies have the faith and belief they can make another run to the CIF State title game in 2026 after they tasted defeat in 2025.

Sutter made it to the final day of the season in 2025 after the “road warriors” traveled over 1,700 miles throughout the postseason and ended in a 17-7 defeat to Barstow in the CIF 4-AA title game.

The Huskies offseason has always begun in January, and the short turnaround brought back a group for the 2026 season hungrier and locked in ready to get back into the weight room.

Sutter head coach Ryan Reynolds told Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that he is excited for another season at being at the helm of the Huskies as he believes they are still a competitive team to have success throughout the Sac-Joaquin Section.

Offense

Sutter brings back a dynamic offense that scored an endless amount of points in 2025.

Huskies senior running back Losi Asiata is one of the best running backs returning in the SJS in 2026 and there is a lot to be excited about.

Asiata rushed for 1,641 yards in 2025 and found the end zone 18 times on the ground and produced eight 100-yard games rushing.

Asiata told YSBC that 2025 was an eye opener for the program to show that they can make it to the final day of the season.

“We’re capable of finishing that goal if we put our heart and soul into it,” Asiata said.

All of the players in the Sutter program expressed that they are confident with one another showing up every game and believing in each other to do whatever it takes for a victory.

Huskies senior quarterback Ayden Hunt shares the belief in his team as he will be the signal caller of the offense for Sutter on offense this season.

Hunt was the backup quarterback last season and played receiver. Hunt said it was the lone year throughout his journey with this senior class as the one year he wasn’t taking snaps at quarterback, but him and his teammates have rekindled that flush chemistry of familiarity throughout the last eight months together.

Defense

The Huskies defense brings back an endless amount of talent from last year and they are going to be dominant against opposing offenses again.

Reynolds always has given the credit of the ferocious defense to defensive coordinator Matt Schamanski and they will apply a ton of pressure this season.

Sutter senior defensive end and Cal commit Troy Bowens told YSBC that he can’t wait to be out on the field on Friday nights with his brothers again.

“We’re a motivated group,” Bowens said. He added that it was heart-breaking how 2025 ended, but he and his teammates have worked hard in the offseason, and all have built trust within one another to be confident that they can have a lot of success.

The Huskies defense returns three players who achieved over 100 tackles last year (Bowens, senior Andrew Barker and senior Kristian Montero.)

Sutter senior linebacker Ayden Miles is a new addition to the Huskies defense and is going to contribute heavily to a dominant defense for Sutter.

Miles said that he was instantly hit with acceptance and love when he joined the school and program.
