YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - Two Yuba-Sutter nonprofits will use new grant funding to expand food assistance and youth education programs after receiving a combined $7,500 from Skylight Renewable Energy.

The grants will support the Yuba-Sutter Food Bank's food recovery and distribution program and Sutter-Yuba 4-H's educational programs that help young people develop leadership, life and technical skills.

The Yuba-Sutter Food Bank will use its grant to support its food recovery and distribution program, which collects surplus food and provides it to individuals and families throughout the region.

"This support helps us recover and distribute more food to neighbors in need while reducing food waste throughout our community," Executive Director Maria Bell said.

Sutter-Yuba 4-H will direct its funding toward educational programs that give local youth opportunities to explore new interests while building practical skills and confidence.

"These programs give young people the chance to explore new interests, develop practical skills, and build confidence that will serve them well into the future," Area Director Preet Ahluwalia said.

Skylight Renewable Energy is a proposed solar and battery storage project being developed by Vesper Energy in Sutter County. According to the company, the project team continues to work with community organizations and stakeholders to identify local investment opportunities through its community grant program.
