YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - Despite triple-digit temperatures, residents across Yuba and Sutter counties turned out Tuesday evening for National Night Out, joining local law enforcement, elected officials and neighbors for an annual event aimed at strengthening relationships between public safety agencies and the communities they serve.

National Night Out was observed Aug. 4 at locations throughout the Yuba-Sutter area, ranging from larger public safety gatherings to neighborhood block parties and backyard celebrations. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office hosted its event outside the department’s headquarters on Civic Center Boulevard in Yuba City, where families had an opportunity to meet deputies and other public safety personnel, visit with local vendors and community organizations and get a closer look at patrol vehicles and equipment. The event also included food and treats from local vendors and a Home Depot craft activity for children.

“Our community showed up in a big way for National Night Out and we couldn’t be more grateful,” the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said following the event. “Your support, conversations and smiles are what make this event special each year. … Let’s hope next year is a slight bit cooler!”

Elsewhere in Sutter County, Yuba City police officers and professional staff spent the evening meeting residents and visiting community gatherings. The Yuba City Police Department said National Night Out provided officers with an opportunity to meet new faces, answer questions and spend time with the residents they serve.

“A huge thank you to all of our community partners, volunteers, vendors, and city staff who helped make this event possible,” the department said. “We also appreciate everyone who stopped by to say hello, meet our officers and professional staff, explore our equipment, and enjoy a fun evening with family and friends.”

Across the river, the Marysville Police Department hosted its National Night Out celebration at Triplett Park, where residents gathered for an evening of food, activities and interaction with local first responders. The event featured a petting zoo, giant yard games, a coloring contest, an officer meet-and-greet and free school supplies for children, along with backpack prizes, food and other activities. Members of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office also traveled to National Night Out gatherings throughout the county, meeting families and visiting residents in their neighborhoods.

Sutter County Supervisor Karm Bains and U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson were among the elected officials making the rounds Tuesday evening, stopping at a number of local National Night Out gatherings. One of the evening’s larger neighborhood celebrations was hosted at the home of Rolling Stone Pizza Company owner Jim King, where National Night Out took on the feel of a community concert and pizza party.

“We’re just out here to have a good time and support our officers,” King said.

Fresh pizzas came out of Rolling Stone’s mobile pizza oven throughout the gathering while a lineup of local musicians performed for those in attendance. Performers included Missing Grey, Judo Rooster and Paulie Daly of ONOFF.

“What an amazing National Night Out 2026!” the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office said following the event. “Thank you to everyone who welcomed us into your neighborhood and came out to celebrate with us.”
