YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - Local government agencies are highlighting opportunities for students and prospective employees to gain hands-on experience in public-sector careers, with Sutter County recognizing its summer engineering interns and Yuba City opening a new SkillBridge internship.
Sutter County Development Services recognized three engineering interns July 30 as part of National Intern Day. Alex I. and Marshall H., both civil engineering students at California State University, Chico, and Madison S., a civil engineering student at the University of Mary in North Dakota, have spent the summer working alongside county engineers and engineering technicians.
The interns have gained field experience mapping and documenting culverts in need of maintenance, reviewing maps for the county surveyor and learning how public works projects are planned, inspected and maintained.
“It has been an invaluable opportunity, and I am grateful to the county and everyone I’ve worked with,” Marshall said.
Yuba City announced on Aug. 5 that it is accepting applications for an internship through SkillBridge, a program that provides transitioning military service members with civilian career training and work experience.
The opening is for a plant maintenance mechanic intern at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Facility. Additional information is available through the city’s employment website at http://yubacity.net/jobs.
