MARYSVILLE, CA (YSBC) - The Yuba-Sutter Freebirds struggled throughout another week from Aug. 4-9 as they went 1-5.

Yuba-Sutter dropped their first five games of the week against Modesto and Oakland before the Freebirds beat the Ballers on Sunday afternoon.

YS infielder Andrew Kirchner had six hits and one run-batted-in (RBI) against Modesto.

None of the Freebirds’ starting pitchers went past 4 ⅔ in their stints and gave up less than seven runs throughout their time on the rubber.

YS produced runs in two out of the three games, but a majority of the runs were produced later in the games.

Oakland took the first two games against the Freebirds and had big-run production in the fourth innings of their two wins over YS.

Kirchner stayed hot at the plate as he added eight hits and two RBIs in the series against the Ballers.

YS infielders Zach Chamizo and Kyle Carlson added four hits throughout the series as well.

In the lone win for the week for the Freebirds, they got off to an early lead in the first couple innings as Chamizo hit a sacrifice fly and catcher Max Ortega hit an RBI double.

YS starter Devin Norton surrendered the lead in the third after a pair of home runs to go down 4-2.

The Freebirds chipped away from the fourth through the sixth innings.

YS in the seventh had RBI hits by Kirchner, Ortega and Carlson that gave them the lead.

After relievers Tristan Wolf and Rene Pfeifer tossed scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth, they secured the lone victory for the Freebirds of the week.

As there is less than a month left in the season, the Freebirds ended the week with a 5-19 record in the second half of the season on Sunday.

YS hit the road and began a three-game series with Long Beach on Tuesday and started a home series against Modesto, who continues to be the hottest team in the Pioneer Baseball League on Friday.
