SUTTER COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Sutter County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which callers falsely claim victims missed jury duty and must make an immediate payment to avoid arrest.

The Sheriff's Office said it has received reports of scammers telling residents they must come to the Sheriff's Office with payment or face immediate arrest. Officials stressed that the calls are fraudulent.

"The Sutter County Sheriff's Office will NEVER call you about jury duty," the agency said in a public warning.

The Sheriff's Office also said it will never ask someone to make a payment over the phone or in person to avoid arrest and will never threaten to arrest someone for refusing to make a payment.
