Freebirds Win Series Against Oakland

MARYSVILLE, CA (YSBC) – The Yuba-Sutter Freebirds endured another losing week in the Pioneer Baseball League as they went 2-4 from July 28-Aug. 2.
Yuba-Sutter began the week with taking two-out-of-three from the Oakland Ballers before they endured a sweep by the Modesto Roadsters.
The Freebirds opened the week with a bang as they sent four balls out of Bryant field in the 20-10 victory over the Ballers on July 28.

YS put up a 10-run inning in the first, which included seven hits. Outfielder Cooper Hext went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate in the victory that included a double, home run and brought in two runs-batted-in (RBIs).
The Ballers returned the favor in game two of the series as they played eight runs across the board within the first-four innings on the way to a win.
In the rubber match of the Oakland series, the Freebirds got a solid pitching outing from Riley Egloff picked up the win after pitching six innings where he allowed three runs off five hits and struck out five.

Hext had another multi-hit game where he had four RBIs in the win.
YS hit the road last weekend and once again ran into the hottest team in the PBL (Modesto).
The Roadsters entered the series last weekend against the Freebirds with the best record in the second half of the season (8-1).
Modesto blasted YS in the series opener on July 30 with a 22-1 victory. The Roadsters opened with an 11-run inning en route by getting to Freebirds starter Anthony Silvas early in the game.
Modesto defeated YS by double-digits again in the second game of the series as they consistently collected hits off Freebirds pitcher Chase Martinez.
In the series finale on Sunday, it was a pitchers duel between former YS pitcher Jonah Jwnkins tossed seven-shutout innings against the Freebirds.

The former Hugh Wheeler allowed one hit and struck out eight in the Modesto victory.
For YS, Jared Schaeffer tossed five solid innings in the loss where he allowed one run off five hits and sat down three Roadsters’ back to the bench empty on strikes.
Freebirds catcher Max Ortega and infielder Zach Chamizo grabbed the two hits for YS in the loss.
The Freebirds began another series against Modesto on Tuesday and will welcome Oakland back to Bryant Field on Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 9.
