YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture and the Marysville Japanese American Citizens League will host a special screening of the independent feature film "Kintsukuroi" on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts.

The screening begins at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a live question-and-answer session with members of the film's cast and crew. Organizers said the discussion will give audience members an opportunity to learn about the inspiration behind the film, its production and the challenges of independent filmmaking.

Named after the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, "Kintsukuroi" explores themes of healing, resilience, forgiveness and hope.

"This is much more than a movie screening," said David Read, executive director of Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture. "It's an opportunity to experience a thought-provoking independent film and then hear directly from the talented people who brought it to life. We love creating opportunities for our audiences to engage with artists and filmmakers in meaningful conversations about locally relevant topics."

The event is part of an ongoing partnership between Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture and the Marysville Japanese American Citizens League to share and expand public understanding of the experiences of Japanese Americans during World War II.

The two organizations previously worked together on the Arboga Assembly Center Memorial Park in south Yuba County, which commemorates the approximately 2,500 Japanese Americans who were temporarily held at the site in 1942 before being transferred to more permanent internment camps.

Following the film, attendees will be able to ask questions of the cast and crew and hear stories from behind the scenes about the making of the production.
