YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Congressman Mike Thompson met with local business leaders and members of the Yuba City Downtown Business Association July 16 to discuss issues affecting small businesses and the local economy.

About 15 business and community leaders gathered at Sopa Thai on Plumas Street to share concerns ranging from the cost of doing business to housing affordability and the future of Social Security and Medicare.

"The small businesses on Plumas Street are a big part of what makes Yuba City special," Thompson said. "I was glad to meet with so many of our local small business owners to hear about their successes and the struggles they face and to discuss what actions I can take in Congress to help ensure that our fantastic local businesses can grow and create more jobs here in our district."

According to Thompson's office, the discussion focused on ways the federal government can better support small businesses while promoting economic growth.

As ranking member of the House Ways and Means Tax Subcommittee, Thompson said he will continue working on policies and tax incentives intended to strengthen local businesses and the regional economy.
