YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - Several infrastructure and public improvement projects are moving forward across Yuba and Sutter counties, including a rural culvert study, drainage work near Trowbridge and construction at two Yuba County parks.

Rural culvert open house planned

Yuba County residents are invited to attend a public open house Thursday, July 30, to learn more about an ongoing study examining how rural road culverts could be affected by future storms and changing climate conditions.

The open house for the Climate Change Vulnerability Analysis for Rural Road Culverts project will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Foothill Lions Club, 5667 Fruitland Road. Residents may stop by at any time during the event to learn about the project, ask questions and share their knowledge of hidden or difficult-to-locate culverts beneath county-owned and maintained rural roads. The county is not seeking information about privately owned culverts.

Those unable to attend may participate through the county's self-guided online open house on the Yuba County website.

Drainage improvements underway near Trowbridge

Sutter County road crews are making safety improvements along El Centro Boulevard north of Cornelius Avenue near Trowbridge to help reduce roadway flooding during the winter months. The section of roadway frequently experiences localized flooding following storms, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions. Standing water can be particularly difficult for motorists to see at night.

To improve drainage, the Sutter County Development Services Department's south road crew is cutting more than a mile of drainage ditches along both sides of El Centro Boulevard. Work began during the week of July 20 and is expected to be completed early the following week.

County officials thanked motorists and nearby residents for their patience while crews complete the project.

Construction continues at county parks

Construction is underway at Marigold Park, a planned 4.3-acre park along Goldfields Parkway in Yuba County. Plans for the park include basketball and pickleball courts, a dog park, children's play areas, walking paths and other amenities. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2027.

Construction is also continuing at Friendship Park. County officials said information about an upcoming public art competition will be released in the coming weeks.
