YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - Her flowing blonde hair, whimsical style and frequent mermaid appearances at community events have earned local musician Gwenhwyfar Buckley the fitting nickname "Marysville Mermaid."

Buckley, who leads the local folk group Under the Canopy, is now preparing for one of her busiest seasons yet. In addition to summer festival performances, the band is preparing to release its debut album, unveil new music videos filmed in Marysville, organize the fourth annual Folk in the Fall Music Festival and embark on a November tour.

Following its performance at the Marysville Peach Festival this past weekend, Under the Canopy will next take the stage at the Next Up Music Festival on Aug. 22 in Yuba City. The group recently completed filming two live music videos at the Marysville Banquet Hall for its original songs, "Grapevine" and "Man on the Moon." Produced by videographer Blake Maston, the videos are expected to premiere in mid-August. Both songs will appear on the band's debut album, "Light Up My Room," which Buckley said is scheduled for release this winter.

Currently, Buckley is hard at work organizing the fourth annual Folk in the Fall Music Festival, planned for Oct. 3. The annual event celebrates folk music by bringing together local and touring musicians, and organizers are currently seeking vendors, sponsors and participating artists.

Following the festival, Under the Canopy plans to embark on a November tour with fellow artist Valerian, bringing its original folk music to audiences beyond the Yuba-Sutter area.
