YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The Sutter County Museum will host its first Ribs & Relics event on Saturday, Aug. 8, bringing together barbecue, antique appraisals, history activities and family entertainment.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum, 1333 Butte House Road in Yuba City. Designed as a community gathering, the event will give visitors an opportunity to explore local history while learning more about family heirlooms and antiques.
Professional appraiser Erin Dewell will offer antique appraisals throughout the event. Visitors are encouraged to bring antiques, collectibles, and family treasures for evaluation. Appraisals are $5 per item or $20 for up to five items.
Barbecue ribs and sides will be served from noon to 2 p.m., while supplies last. Meals are $15 for adults and $10 for children.
The museum also will offer free family activities, games and prizes throughout the day. Activities highlighting local and American history are planned for visitors of all ages.
Historic photographs from the museum's collection illustrate the community's long tradition of gathering for food and fellowship. The images include a Marysville High School picnic from about 1900 to 1901, a group of young women enjoying a picnic along the Feather River around 1910 and the Elks Club Duck Stew at Hammon Grove in October 1922, when hundreds of families gathered for an outdoor meal.
The museum hopes the inaugural Ribs & Relics event will continue that tradition by bringing the community together for food, history and family fun.
