MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - Families still have one more opportunity to receive free summer meals for children through the Marysville Joint Unified School District before the district's Summer Meals Program concludes next week.
The final meal distributions will take place Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, at six locations throughout Yuba and Yuba County rural communities. The program provides seven days of breakfasts and lunches at no cost for children ages 18 and younger.
Distribution sites include Franklin Elementary School, 332 N. Township Road in Yuba City, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, and Yuba County Airport, 1364 Sky Harbor Drive in Olivehurst, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Additional Tuesday distribution stops include Brownsville Fire Station from 8:15 to 9 a.m., the Alcouffe Center from 9:30 to 9:45 a.m., Loma Rica Community Church from 10:15 to 11 a.m. and Cordua School from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.
Amber Green, nutrition services director for Marysville Joint Unified School District, encouraged families to participate before the program ends.
"Summer fun should be fueled by healthy food," Green said. "The Marysville Joint Unified School District's Summer Meals program is wrapping up next week, so don't miss your chance to pick up seven days of free, nutritious meals for your children ages 0-18. We ask that families please sign up through our survey today. It helps us ensure we have enough food prepared for every child in our community."
The district asks families to complete the parent sign-up survey before picking up meals to help staff prepare the appropriate number of meal packages. Parents or guardians may pick up meals for their own children. Otherwise, children must be present. Students attending summer school are not eligible for non-congregate meal pickups because they already receive meals at school.
The Summer Meals Program is offered through the district's Nutrition Services Department in partnership with No Kid Hungry. Kathy Saile, California director for No Kid Hungry, said recent changes have expanded access to summer meal programs in rural communities by allowing options such as multi-day meal pickups and home delivery in some areas.
