YUBA COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Yuba County Board of Supervisors has adopted a resolution recognizing the Yuba River Endowment for its contributions to agriculture, education and community programs throughout Yuba County.

The board honored the nonprofit organization for its philanthropic efforts since its founding in 2019 by local farmers who hold water rights to the Yuba River.

The Yuba River Endowment was created to direct a portion of proceeds from water transfers back into the local community. During years when environmental conditions permit, participating farmers transfer a portion of their water resources to drought-affected areas of County Honors Yuba River Endowment California. A percentage of the revenue generated from those transfers funds the Endowment's charitable programs.

According to the organization, the Endowment has invested more than $1.5 million in Yuba County since its formation.

Programs highlighted in the county's resolution include annual educational scholarships, support for food security efforts and funding for community-focused initiatives.

The Endowment allocates up to $100,000 each year in scholarships for Yuba County students pursuing higher education. It also provides funding and agricultural resource donations to the Yuba-Sutter Food Bank and supports programs benefiting veterans, youth agriculture organizations and community safety efforts.

In a statement included with the resolution, the Yuba County Board of Supervisors praised the organization's approach to community investment.

"This resolution reflects our deep appreciation for the farmers who make up the Yuba River Endowment," the board stated. "Their ability to turn a vital natural resource into a sustainable engine for local charity is a model of community stewardship."

The Yuba River Endowment said it plans to continue its grant and scholarship programs to support future generations in Yuba County.

The nonprofit operates as a 501(c)(3) organization and describes its mission as using proceeds from water transfers to fund projects that protect, preserve and enhance quality of life in Yuba County.
