YUBA-SUTTER, CA (YSBC) - The Wheatland Pirates and Sutter Huskies were the two teams in our CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs that made it to the semifinals this week and represented our area well.

Sutter forced a deciding game three in their series, but they didn’t deliver when they went and traveled to play the Wolves as they fell 8-2.

Both squads had the energy you would want in a deciding game to extend the season, but Woodland showed throughout the day before they wanted it more.

The Huskies hit the ball hard early on in the game, but that had to be magneted to the Wolves defenders as they had to take minimal steps to record outs.

Sutter senior Jace Cummins struggled to get out of the first inning as he recorded one out before being relieved by senior Dwight and got through the remainder of the inning.

Woodland senior pitcher David Tanner was locked in as he pitched the whole time in the win over the Huskies.

The Wolves took control of the game and demanded the victory as they scored three more times in the fifth for a 7-1 lead.

The Huskies did fight back and managed to plate a couple late-run innings towards the end of the game.

The Wheatland Pirates clinched their ticket to the CIF Sac-Joaquin upset the No. 1 team (Lincoln) in the bracket on May 8, but had zero answer in the response as the Pirates.

Wheatland dominant offense continued to flourish against opponent pitching she faced, but everything has been clicking right for the Pirates.

Wheatland head coach Brad Barton told Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the Pirates don’t take a day off, but are going to be ready for Saturday, May 23 when they are scheduled to play against 11 seconds.

Wheatland has a great attitude heading into their first chance at. as they have a deep hitting line up 1-9.
