YUBA-SUTTER, CA (YSBC) - The first and second rounds of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section softball playoffs were completed last week and our area went from five squads to one over the completion heading into this week's semifinals.

Here’s how things played out.

River Valley

The Falcons were defeated in the first round of the SJS Division III playoffs as they fell 8-2.

River Valley had a two-run deficit after the first inning and didn’t have a scoring opportunity until the third inning, but they were unsuccessful at pushing a run across the plate early.

The Falcons defense committed a few errors that aided some run support for Christian Brothers.

River Valley sophomore pitcher Apple Ward tossed a complete game during the loss where she surrendered eight runs off six hits and struck out eight.

Falcons senior Emylee Hull led River Valley with two hits in the defeat.

Wheatland

The Pirates fell 9-3 to the Casa Roble Rams on May 13 in the first round of the CIF SJS Division am playoffs.

Wheatland junior pitcher Ellie Rounds surrendered two runs to Casa Roble in the first.

The Pirates tied the game in the top of the third after a pair of run-batted-in (RBI) singles by junior Gwendylyn Chan and senior Ashtynne Agarenzo.

Rounds was relieved in the third by freshman Isabella Rivera after she loaded the bases with a two-out walk,

The Rams proceeded to score four runs in the third and took a 6-2 lead.

After Casa Roble extended their lead 8-2 in the fourth, Wheatland scored their final run of the game in the fifth after Agarenzo reached safely on an infield error that scored junior outfielder Tatum Sousa.

Lindhurst

The Blazers fell to the Roseville Tigers in the first round of the CIF SJS Division IV playoffs on May 13, 10-1.

Lindhurst took an early 1-0 lead in the first frame of the game after junior Gisele Thao lined an RBI single that brought home senior Ashlyn Wheeler.

Wheeler kept Roseville scoreless from the circle for the first couple innings before the Tigers offense began to find open spots on the field for positive  at-bats.

The Blazers didn't record a hi after the first inning as Roseville sophomore pitcher recorded the final 14 outs of the game with three walks only.

Roseville took control of the game in the fourth by adding four more before taking control of the game for the win.

Yuba City

The Honkers won their first round matchup on May 13 as they returned the favor to the East Union Lancers and delivered a road victory to end their season.

East Union defeated Yuba City in the second round of the postseason in Sutter county last year where the Lancers scored late and won the game.

The Honkers used a late strike as senior shortstop Chloe Gonzales delivered a two-run home run to tie the game and sophomore Danika Alvarez hit the game winner with an RBI single before sophomore pitcher Maddison Stead retired the side in order to move to the second round.

Yuba City traveled to Woodland on May 15 and lost to No. 1 Pioneer.

The Honkers were tied after three after Gonzales and Stead hit a pair of back-to-back RBI singles.

The Patriots figured out a way to piece some hits together and score runs in the fifth and sixth before securing the semifinal ticket.

Sutter

The Huskies are the lone standing girls squad still representing the SJS area in our region for softball Moua.

Sutter easily took care of business against Galt with a 10-0 win in the first round on May 13.

The Huskies hosted Lincoln on May 15 where it went down to the wire as Sutter scored four in the sixth, including a two run shot by junior infielder Malaina Wilder.

As Calaveras was defeated on May 15 by Eacalon, the Huskies will now host the semifinal matchup instead of being on the road.

Sutter hosted Escalon on Tuesday with a chance to head to Cosumnes River College for a blue banner.
