Kiwanis Fishing Derby Returns to Marysville

MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - The Kiwanis Club of Marysville will host the 74th annual Jim Watson Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 16, at Ellis Lake in Marysville.

The free community event will run from 6:30 a.m. to noon at 1205 D St. Registration will be open from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Participating families are invited to enjoy a free pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m.

The annual derby has become a long-standing Marysville tradition, bringing young anglers and their families to Ellis Lake for a morning of fishing, outdoor activities and community connection. Organizers estimate that past events have drawn more than 1,000 participants between the ages of 3 and 16.

Participants are asked to bring their own fishing rods and tackle. The event will also feature games, activities and prize drawings beginning at 11 a.m. Hot dogs, soda and bait will be available for purchase.

This year’s event is sponsored by Recology Yuba-Sutter, Yuba Water Agency, the City of Marysville, the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation, the Nor-Cal Guides and Sportsmen’s Association and California Water Service.
