YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Construction is underway on improvements to a heavily used transit stop at the corner of Shasta and Alturas streets in Yuba City.

According to the City of Yuba City, construction began April 24 at the bus stop, which serves more than 100 buses per day through the Yuba-Sutter Transit Authority system. City officials said the high volume of traffic caused significant wear and deterioration to the roadway and nearby pedestrian facilities.

The project is a partnership between the city and the Yuba-Sutter Transit Authority to improve safety, durability and accessibility for transit riders and pedestrians.

Planned improvements include construction of a new 8-inch concrete bus pad designed to accommodate heavy bus traffic, Americans with Disabilities Act curb ramp upgrades, curb and gutter drainage repairs, rehabilitation of deteriorated asphalt concrete and new striping.

Construction is expected to be completed by May 11, weather permitting. Project costs are being shared equally between the City of Yuba City and the Yuba-Sutter Transit Authority. The construction contract was awarded to All-American Construction Inc. of Sutter for $179,590.

City officials said they appreciate the public’s patience during construction and plan to continue providing project updates as work progresses.
