SUTTER COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Sutter County has appointed Kyle Long as its new fire chief, bringing more than two decades of experience in fire service leadership to the role.
Long assumed the position April 13 after most recently serving as a deputy chief with the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. In that role, he led the Fire Integrated Real-Time Intelligence System program, which supports fire and rescue operations across California.
He began his career in 2002 as a volunteer firefighter with the Cordelia Fire Protection District and joined the Vallejo Fire Department in 2003. During his time in Vallejo, Long advanced through the ranks from firefighter paramedic to captain, battalion chief, deputy chief and fire chief.
Long also served as union president for IAFF Local 1186, where he worked on collaboration and advocacy within the fire service.
“I am honored to serve the Sutter County community and lead such a dedicated team of professionals,” Long said. “I look forward to building strong relationships in the community, supporting our firefighters, and continuing to provide the highest level of service to our residents.”
County officials said Long will lead the department with a focus on service, safety and continued operations.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Ziegenmeyer welcomed the appointment, citing Long’s background in fire service leadership.
“We are pleased to welcome Chief Long to Sutter County,” Ziegenmeyer said. “His extensive leadership experience and strong background in the fire service make him well-positioned to continue our tradition of excellence in public safety.”
Long said he plans to support firefighters while mentoring the next generation of leaders in the department.
