It was a pitchers duel for the first three innings of the game as Marysville senior Taegan Jung brought his best stuff to the mound and kept the Wheatland hitters off balanced.

Jung pitched 3 2/3 innings in the loss where he was charged five runs off of three hits and struck out eight.

The Pirates took advantage of Jung in the fourth where they scored five runs off of a couple walks and some big hits the second time through the lineup.

Wheatland head coach Brad Barton expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that he believes this team has an opportunity to make a lengthy playoff run as they finished the week in second place of the PVL standings.

Barton said that he is excited to see what his team was going to do during the 2026 NorCal Classic this week that was played at Bryant Field and Yuba City High School.

The Pirates are one of four local teams that participated in the tournament that is held from Monday, April 6 through Wednesday, April 8.

Barton added that the final two games of the PVL will be important as they will face off with Lincoln, who is currently in first place of the PVL standings.

Marysville first-year head coach Brian Williams expressed to YSBC that each day is an opportunity to get better with his young roster.

The Indians have four underclass men on their roster and the experience they gain throughout the season will be good learning lessons for them.

Marysville Assistant Coach Maddox Marino, who is an 2023 alumnus, told YSBC he couldn’t not stand to be around baseball on a regular basis.

Marino played at Yuba College following graduation at Marysville. He told YSBC that he wants to give back his knowledge of the game to the current Indians and wants to bring back the identity of the program.

Marysville is also competing the in the second annual NorCal Classic this week.
