YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The Acting Company will open its latest production, “Cabaret,” on April 10, bringing the iconic musical set in 1930s Berlin to the local stage under the direction of first-time director Christian De La Torre.

Running through May 3, the show transports audiences into the world of the Kit Kat Club, where dazzling performances unfold against the backdrop of a society on the brink of political and social upheaval. Known for its blend of lively music and darker themes, “Cabaret” explores love, identity and the consequences of ignoring a changing world.

The production features a mix of familiar and new faces to The Acting Company stage, with Drew Tamez as the Emcee, Mary Ramón as Sally Bowles and Aiden Hayes as Clifford Bradshaw, alongside a full ensemble bringing the Kit Kat Club to life. For De La Torre, the production marks both a milestone and a learning experience.

“This being the first show I’ve directed, I have to say my experience has been eye-opening,” he said. “I’m constantly asking questions the following day saying, ‘what could I have done better?’ ‘What could make the rehearsal much smoother?’ ‘Am I being too lenient with the actors?’”

He said collaboration has been key as ideas evolve throughout the rehearsal process.

“I have a wonderful cast and they’ve all been putting in a great amount of work,” De La Torre said. “I cannot wait for you, the audience, to witness this important story that remains relevant to this day.”
