YUBA CITY, CA (YSBC) - The Yuba City Honkers won their first Foothill Valley League series after taking the rubber match on Friday, March 27 with a 5-0 shutout win against the Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos.

Yuba City senior pitcher Brody Miller tossed a complete-game shutout where he only gave up three hits and struck out seven.

Miller was effective with tossing first-pitch strikes and kept a low pitch count as he averaged 12 pitches an inning for the shutout.

Miller also got it done at the plate as he went 2-for 3 with a run-batted-in (RBI).

Honkers junior infielder Aden Howard delivered a two-RBI single in the first that gave Yuba City a 3-0 lead early.

Miller was locked in on the bump and kept Twelve Bridges off balanced in the box.

Honkers head coach Maury Castaneda told Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that they had a grueling preseason schedule and the reality of it is everyone is giving their best to them nightly. (4)

Castaneda said it’s expected that everyone is gunning and giving their best effort as they ended as the top dogs in Division II last year.

Injuries have been a factor as some key returners from the 2025 championship team have been out on the reserve list but Castaneda expressed that who knows what can happen if everyone runs into a healthy Honkers’ club in the postseason.

Yuba City and River Valley squared off in a FVL series matchup this week and is scheduled to conclude tonight with first pitch set at 6 p.m. from Yuba City.
