ORLAND, CA (MPG) - Author Steven T. Callan will speak at the Colusi County Historical Society’s April 18 luncheon, where he will discuss his latest novel, "The Outlaw from Newville."

The event is scheduled for noon at the Glenn Success Square Conference Center, 131 E. Walker St. The public is invited, and a book signing will follow the presentation. Tickets cost $20 for members and $22 for nonmembers. Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://colusi.com.

Callan, who grew up in Orland, is known for his Game Warden Henry Glance series. His newest book, released June 10, 2025, continues the story of a Northern California game warden navigating complex wildlife crimes.

The novel is set primarily in Glenn and Butte counties and also follows a storyline that reaches back to Soviet Russia in the 1970s. The plot centers on a long-running investigation tied to a big-game hunter accused of repeated wildlife violations.

Callan said his writing reflects a long-standing connection to the outdoors.

“My love of nature is what drives my writing. I include a conservation message in everything I write,” he said.

Before becoming an author, Callan spent 30 years with the California Department of Fish and Game, beginning his career in 1974. He later served in supervisory roles and worked much of his career in Shasta County.

His earlier work includes both fiction and nonfiction. His first novel in the Henry Glance series, *The Case of the Missing Game Warden*, was named a finalist for Best First Novel in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

Callan has also received recognition for his nonfiction writing. His book *Badges, Bears, and Eagles* was a finalist for a 2013 Book of the Year award, while *The Game Warden’s Son* was named Best Outdoor Book of 2016 by the Outdoor Writers Association of California.

Organizers said the April 18 event offers an opportunity for readers to hear directly from the author about his work and experiences in wildlife law enforcement.
