LINDA, CA (YSBC) - The Yuba College 49ers softball team won their first game of the season on Friday, March 20 with a 1-0 victory over the College of Siskiyous Eagles.

Yuba had dropped 11-consecutive games to open the 2026 season and started Golden Valley Conference (GVC) on the right foot.

The 49ers got a lights-out performance from East Nicolaus alumna Stevie Knight, who picked up the complete-game win and shutout.

Knight originally signed with Abilene Christian University and after a semester, she decided it wasn’t the right fit for her as she expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports.

Knight said she decided Yuba was the right fit for her as she came home and wanted to be an intricate part of the program.

Knight gave up two hits, walked three and struck out eight COS hitters in the win.

Offensively, the 49ers only had two hits, but Yuba first baseman Kierra Jackson hit a runs-batted-in (RBI) double in the fourth inning and brought outfielder and Biggs alumna Marley Seipert around the bases for the lone run of the game.

The 49ers dropped the second game of the double header to the Eagles with a 7-4 loss.

Yuba took an early lead in the first off the bat of pitcher Sophia Chavez after she laced a single to left for the RBI single.

Chavez kept the COS hitting line up in check until the Eagles tied the game in the fourth.

COS put up back-to-back innings of scoring three runs off of Chavez and took a commanding lead.

The 49ers had late momentum in the bottom of the seventh as they put up three runs that stemmed from a triple by center fielder Samantha Pickham.

Seipert hit an RBI single to bring Pickham home. Yuba outfielder and Gridley alumna Alexus Porcayo drove in a run in the seventh as well.

49ers head coach Karlee Coughlin told YSBC that the goal for her team is to get better on a daily basis.

Coughlin expressed that she had lost a minimum of 10 girls from the fall from injuries and personal issues.

She added that the goal is to have her team love the game on a daily basis and continue to bond with one another.

Yuba is scheduled to pick up GVC play on Friday, March 27 with a double header at Feather River College.
