SUTTER COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam targeting families of people housed in the Sutter County Jail. Authorities say scammers are calling individuals and falsely claiming to be a “Sheriff’s Sergeant” while requesting payment related to bail or other fees.
The sheriff’s office said it does not call individuals to request bail payments or collect funds and will never ask for payment through services such as Zelle, Cash App or Venmo. Officials advise residents who receive such calls not to send money or provide personal or banking information. People should hang up immediately and report the call.
