YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The Yuba City Police Department is warning residents about a series of mail thefts reported in the Regency Park and Shanghai Bend Park neighborhoods. Police said suspects are targeting community cluster mailboxes and may be using fraudulent or counterfeit keys that allow access without signs of forced entry.
Authorities believe some of the incidents may have been captured by home security cameras and are asking residents to report suspicious activity or provide video that may help identify suspects or vehicles.
Police recommend residents deposit outgoing mail inside post office locations, retrieve mail promptly after delivery and ask neighbors to collect mail when traveling. Switching to electronic billing and direct deposit can also help limit sensitive documents sent through the mail.
Anyone who believes their mail has been stolen should contact the U.S. Postal Service, notify local law enforcement and immediately alert banks or credit card companies. Residents may also consider placing a fraud alert on their credit report if personal information may have been compromised.
