SUTTER COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Sutter County is accepting applications for a new five-week community academy designed to give residents a closer look at how county government operates.

The program, called LEAP Into Sutter County, will begin July 15 and run through Aug. 12, with sessions held once a week. County officials said the free academy will provide participants with a behind-the-scenes look at department operations and public services.

“This academy is designed to build understanding and trust between residents and their county government,” said Sutter County Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Ziegenmeyer. “LEAP Into Sutter County invites community members to learn more about how decisions are made and how services are delivered, while empowering them to be more engaged in their community.”

Each session will feature presentations from county departments, along with opportunities for discussion and hands-on components that demonstrate how government functions in practice.

This year’s academy will include sessions focused on the Sutter County Fire Department, Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, Sutter County Agricultural Department and the Sutter County Library. A session on public funding also is planned.

The academy is open to Sutter County residents of all ages and backgrounds. Space is limited to 12 participants.

The application period closes April 17. Residents may apply online at www.sutter.gov
