The Honker infield prepares to start an inning in its game against Colusa on Feb. 26.
COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Last week was a good one for the Yuba City softball team after it posted wins in lopsided fashion over Colusa and Marysville respectively.
Starting off with a late game in Colusa on Feb. 26, the Honkers cruised to a 9-1 win over the RedHawks behind a dominate performance in the circle from sophomore pitcher Maddison Stead who tossed a one hit gem.
Yuba City’s Chloe Gonzales slides safely into home during the Honkers’ Feb. 26 game in Colusa.
Colusa batters could not catch up to Stead’s velocity as she fanned 16, then helped her cause by going 3 for 5 with two doubles at the plate.
Yuba City also got a strong performance from senior Chloe Gonzales who went 4 for 4 with three doubles and two RBI in addition to making a great defensive play on a ball hit in the 5-6 hole that she stabbed on the backhand and threw out the runner from her knees.
Sophomore Danika Alvarez finished 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
Following up the next day, the Honkers blew out Marysville 14-0.
Yuba City’s Maddison Stead was dominant in the circle in the Honkers’ 9-1 victory over Colusa on Feb. 26.
Once again pitching was paramount as Alvarez picked up the win in the circle, surrendering just two hits, while also going 2 for 3 with a double.
Gonzales and Stead continued to swing hot bats, ending the contest with a pair of hits and three RBI apiece.
Senior Taylorlyn Anderson was 2 for 3 with a home run.
This week was a busy one for the Honkers (2-1) who hosted Chico on Mar. 2, traveled to Antelope on Mar. 3, then returned to Chico on Mar. 6 and 7 for the Pleasant Valley Tournament.
