YUBA COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office Jail Crew partnered with local nonprofit SAYlove last month to clean areas throughout Yuba County as part of the Sheriff’s Community Improvement Program.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, program participants are nonviolent offenders who work under supervision to remove trash and debris from public spaces.
Officials said the program supports rehabilitation by allowing participants to work outside the jail while building job skills, teamwork and responsibility.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked SAYlove for the partnership and said the effort aims to improve public spaces while providing opportunities for individuals preparing to return to the community.
In a video posted by the Sheriff’s Office, a homeless encampment near the river appeared cleared during the cleanup. Johnny Burke, executive director of the Sutter Yuba Homeless Consortium, said outreach workers had offered services to people at the site about a week earlier and those individuals had since left the camp.
