NEVADA CITY, CA (MPG) - A Nevada City man who lost thousands of dollars while walking home has had all of it returned, thanks to a Good Samaritan.

On the morning of Jan. 21, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a resident who reported finding several personal belongings in the front yard of his Nevada City home. The items did not belong to anyone at the residence and included loose cash scattered across the property totaling $6,270.

Deputies were able to locate the rightful owner and learned the cash and personal items had been carried in a satchel that was left unsecured and fell out during the man’s walk home. After realizing what had happened, the man retraced his steps but was unable to locate the missing money and belongings.

The man’s family later told deputies that having everything returned was “a dream come true and prayers answered.”

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Good Samaritan for the act of honesty and goodwill.

“The Good Samaritan serves as a reminder that doing the right thing doesn’t require recognition, only compassion and the willingness to act,” said Operations Captain Rusty Greene. “In a moment when it mattered most, he stepped up and showed how small choices can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.”
