MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - Tucked along D Street in downtown Marysville, Horizon Wellness offers a quiet contrast to the pace and pressures that shaped its creation — a calming space born out of one of the most stressful periods in modern healthcare.

The business began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when a group of friends working in the medical field found themselves searching for relief from the emotional weight of their daily work.

“It all started off in 2020 because it was pretty sad for us in the medical field,” said Manpreet Dhillon, one of the spa’s owners. “It was all busy busy busy, sad sad sad.”

Looking for a positive outlet, Dhillon and several of her colleagues began taking aesthetic classes as a way to stay motivated and protect their mental well-being. What started as a shared coping mechanism soon evolved into something more permanent.

With new certifications and growing confidence, the group decided to open their own facility — initially as a space to practice treatments on one another, but eventually as a place to share that sense of renewal with the wider community.

“This is basically a happy place for us, it keeps us from that daily busy life with people dying, to a happy environment where people are happy about their skin and their appearance and feeling positive,” Dhillon said.

Nearly two years later, Horizon Wellness has grown into a full-service wellness and skincare center offering a wide range of holistic health and cosmetic treatments. Among the most sought-after services are laser ablation treatments for acne and surgical scars, as well as procedures addressing hormonal conditions such as PCOS, which can lead to unwanted chin and neck hair in some women and girls. The spa also features a CO2 fractional laser and a Pico Carbon Laser — a technology commonly associated with the “Hollywood glow” treatment popular among brides and celebrities.

“You would not find this laser around here,” Dhillon said. “The closest I think is in the Bay Area or Chico.”

Another standout feature is Horizon Wellness’ skin analysis machine, which is often used as a starting point for new patients. The technology can project potential skin concerns that may develop over the next 10 to 20 years. Dhillon said the tool has already helped identify a possible skin cancer growth in a patient, allowing for an early referral to a dermatologist.

“If we can help catch something early why not,” Dhillon said.

In addition to advanced skincare treatments, Horizon Wellness offers body contouring, IV hydration, tattoo removal, facials, permanent makeup, massage, waxing, yoga and hair services. The spacious facility also includes a podcast room and is available for event and party rentals, with some businesses hosting meetings that include select complimentary treatments for attendees.

While some procedures can be costly, Dhillon said accessibility remains a priority. She works with clients on discounts and payment plans, particularly for young people dealing with scars or those seeking tattoo removal to improve employment opportunities.

“It’s not so much about making money, we want to help people,” Dhillon said.
