YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Local agencies and community partners gathered Jan. 9 at Regency Park in Yuba City to celebrate the installation of a new Playground Communication Board designed to support inclusive play for children of all abilities.

The board, installed through a partnership led by the Sutter County Children & Families Commission and TuLips Bloom Speech Therapy, allows children to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and ideas during play using pictures and words. The ADA-compliant feature is intended to support children with speech and language delays, autism, developmental differences and multilingual learners, while remaining beneficial for all children.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the unveiling, with participation from Family SOUP, the city of Yuba City, Alta California and other local partners. Families and community members attended the event to celebrate the addition, which organizers said represents a step toward creating public spaces where every child feels included and heard.

Sutter County officials praised the project as an innovative example of inclusive design that strengthens community connection and accessibility. Following the ceremony, attendees were invited to explore the new feature, with refreshments provided by local business Kulfi Cone.

The Playground Communication Board is now available for public use at Regency Park.
