YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The City of Yuba City proudly announced the appointment of Robert Bendorf as its City Manager, effective Jan. 10. Bendorf, a Yuba City native with more than 40 years of local government and executive leadership experience, has been serving as the City’s Interim City Manager since April 2025.

“The opportunity to appoint Robert to our most important executive leadership position is a huge win for our city,” said Yuba City Mayor Marc Boomgaarden. “Robert has a long history of success in local government management. We’re confident in his ability to help our city meet its full potential for economic development, public safety, customer service, among other things.”

Born and raised in Yuba City, Bendorf went on to serve more than 40 years with local government agencies. He retired from Yuba County in 2020 after serving more than 15 years as its Chief Administrator. Since his retirement he has worked as an executive leadership consultant to dozens of boards and councils.

“As a Yuba City native, Robert has trusted relationships with many of our residents, businesses, County agencies and community organizations,” said Yuba City Councilman and former Mayor Dave Shaw. “He also has an outstanding record of service for local non-profits and volunteer organizations, so he understands the fabric our community and the importance of collaboration.”

Over the years Bendorf has served on numerous state and local committees and commissions including AB 109, Court Transfers, County – Court Mediations, the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) – League of Cities Task Force on Homelessness, the No Place Like Home Advisory Committee (appointment by Governor Brown) and as a board member for the California State Association of Counties Finance Corporation.

For the past 15 years, he has served as an instructor for the California State Association of Counties, teaching hundreds of local government employees and elected officials on topics ranging from finance and budgeting, strategic planning, leadership, communications and effective governance. Bendorf continues to serve on several local non-profit and health care boards in Yuba-Sutter.

“I never thought that I’d have an opportunity to serve my family’s hometown in a capacity like this,” said Bendorf, a Yuba City High School and Yuba College graduate. “Over the last several months, my time spent with the council, community members, and staff has been energizing and I look forward to continuing those partnerships to build upon all of the things that make Yuba City a great place to call home.”
