YUBA COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Yuba County Public Works is preparing to begin a major traffic-signal modernization effort designed to improve visibility, reduce collisions and enhance pedestrian safety at nine intersections countywide.

Funded through a Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant, the Signal Systems Upgrade Project will replace and upgrade signal hardware to make traffic signals easier to see and help drivers better anticipate signal changes. The project will also add pedestrian countdown signals and implement timing updates that give pedestrians a head start before vehicles begin moving through crosswalks.

The nine intersections were identified through a countywide safety analysis due to higher crash rates, including rear-end collisions and speeding-related concerns. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

The intersections included in the Signal Systems Upgrade Project are River Oaks Boulevard and Plumas Lake Boulevard; Olivehurst Avenue and McGowan Parkway; Lindhurst Avenue and Erle Road; Lindhurst Avenue and Hammonton Road West; Lindhurst Avenue and North Beale Road; North Beale Road and the Costco access; North Beale Road and Feather River Boulevard; Linda Avenue and North Beale Road; and Hammonton-Smartsville Road and Simpson Lane.

Planned improvements include brighter, clearer signal lenses; reflective borders to improve nighttime visibility; enhanced backplates and mounting; larger and additional signal heads; pedestrian countdown signals; and signal timing changes intended to improve safety at pedestrian crossings.
