YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The Acting Company has announced auditions for Dial M for Murder, the classic thriller by Frederick Knott, directed by David Wheeler, emeritus professor of theater and film at Yuba College.

Auditions will be held Jan. 5 and 6, 2026, at 6 p.m. at The Acting Company Theater. Performances are scheduled to run Feb. 20 through March 15, 2026.

Best known as a celebrated stage and screen suspense story, Dial M for Murder follows Tony Wendice, who suspects his wife Margot of infidelity and becomes entangled in a dangerous web of jealousy, deception and murder. As secrets unravel, suspicion tightens around the characters, leading to a tense and dramatic conclusion.

The production calls for a cast of five principal roles: Margot Wendice (female, 25–35, English), Maxine Hadley (female, 25–35, American), Tony Wendice (male, 30–40, English), Lesgate (male, 30–40, English) and Inspector Hubbard (male, 40–50, English). The role of Inspector Hubbard may be cast as female.

All characters are university educated, polished and language-driven, with strong physical acting ability required. Because of the intensity of the play, all cast members must be available for the full rehearsal and performance schedule. Auditions will consist of cold-readings from the script.

The Acting Company is located at 815 B St. in Yuba City. More information about auditions and the production is available online at actingcompany.org
