MARYSVILLE, CA (YSBC) - The Marysville Indians Boys basketball team hosted their annual Les Schwab Classic from Dec. 11 through Saturday, Dec. 13 and finished in second place.

Locally, Sutter and Yuba City joined the field of eight. Las Plumas, El Camino, Center, West Campus and Liberty Ranch rounded out the rest of the eight team bracket.

Sutter - The Huskies opened the tournament poorly as they dropped their opener in a 46-42 loss to Yuba City.

Sutter head coach Nabeel Bhatti told Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the energy wasn’t there and expected more from his team.

The Huskies responded on the second day with a nine-point victory over Center.

In their final game of the tournament, they played Golden Empire League foe (El Camino). Sutter played a great first half as they contested multiple shots and had a decisive lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Sutter struggled and the Eagles clawed their way back into the game. The Huskies eventually pushed it out to a double-digit lead again and took the victory.

Sutter is off to a great start at 6-2 overall as of Saturday, Dec.13.  The Huskies are not scheduled to play until the final week of the year at the Lindhurst tournament.

Yuba City - The Honkers had a strong showing in the Schwab Classic as they went 2-1 overall and took third place in a competitive tournament.

Yuba City followed up the opening day victory over Sutter with a 10-point defeat to eventual champion, West Campus.

The Honkers had three double-digit scorers in the loss and were led by sophomore Prabjot Sandhu with 14 points.

The Warriors were able to build a bit of separation in the third quarter and stayed even with the Honkers in the fourth for the win.

Yuba City easily took care of Liberty Ranch in the third-place game as they built a double-digit lead in the second quarter and didn’t look back.

The Honkers will host the Mel Good tournament this weekend.

Marysville - The Indians easily took care of business against El Camino and Liberty Ranch as the Marysville program expects to be in contention for a long postseason.

The Indians program has a lot of depth in their program and it’s a good problem for head coach Stan Easter.

Marysville brings back five returners to this season’s roster and they showed out in the Les Schwab opener against El Camino as senior Jordan Witt and junior Steven Martin both had more than 20 points in the win against the Eagles.

The Indians trailed against a good West Campus team at the half by seven at the half. The Warriors didn’t push their lead to double digits until there were two minutes left in the game.

Marysville will play at the Mel Good tournament this weekend where they will look to have back-to-back successful weekends in tournament play.
