MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - Come out and enjoy this uniquely American musical form when Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture presents its annual Yuba-Sutter Big Band holiday concert at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts. The Swinging Holiday Concert will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6.
The doors and bar open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. Sutter Theater Center for the Arts is at 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City. Tickets are $20 for general admission. Be sure to order in advance at yubasutterarts.org.
The Yuba-Sutter Big Band is directed by the award-winning music educator, Scott Zeuch and managed by Deanna Olson. Featuring the timeless elegance of the Great American Songbook, the joyful nostalgia of beloved Christmas carols and fresh takes on popular hits, this performance blends the old, the new and the festive in perfect harmony.
Let the power of a full big band transport you with lush brass arrangements, driving rhythms and dazzling solos, while talented vocalists bring classic and contemporary songs to life. Feel the warmth of holiday favorites like “Sleighride” and “The Christmas Song”, swing along to iconic big band hits and discover exciting original music that celebrates the spirit of the season. Scott is the Director of Bands at Yuba City High School and River Bend Middle School. He graduated with honors from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in music education. He also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from the American College of Education. Scott and his wife recently returned to the U.S. after teaching in Bangalore, India for twelve years. His primary instrument is the trombone.
Deanna has a Master of Arts in Education degree and has been teaching for 24 years, currently in the Marysville Joint Unified School District. She has played with the Shasta and Yuba College Concert and Jazz bands as well as the Ukuladies and the CSU Chico Concert and Jazz bands. Deanna is also the lead instructor for the Marysville Joint Unified School District Youth Mariachi Orchestra program. Additional members of the Yuba Sutter Big Band include Paula Clingan, Jim Achilles, Gary Anderson, Scott Stewart, John Proctor, Pablo Rosado, Mike Sarringar, Ray Blackham, Elizabeth Adams, Bill Eslick, David Heredia, Dave Brubaker, Dave Coe and Ron Hake.
Just like in the famous lyrics of the Duke Ellington song, “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing!” There is no question that this band knows how to swing, especially during the holidays, so don’t miss out.
