YUBA-SUTTER AREA, CA (YSBC) - The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section and the Northern Section opened postseason play on Friday, Nov. 14 and there were three Yuba-Sutter squads that had the opportunity for a blue banner and plaque.

Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs

Sutter 65, Rosemont (Sacramento) 14 - The third seeded Sutter Huskies opened the 2025 postseason with a dominant victory over Rosemont in the SJS Division V playoffs.

Sutter gained almost 500 yards of offense in the victory including 169 rushing yards from junior running back Losi Asiata and 82 from senior running back Max Bringgold.

Asiata and Bringgold each found the end zone once in the win against Rosemont. Huskies senior quarterback Braden Scritchfield had four combined touchdowns on the night and accumulated 105 yards of offense.

Defensively, Sutter reigned supreme as they had 12 tackles for loss and forced five turnovers off interceptions, including a 35-yard pick six by junior safety Deagan Parks.

The Huskies will travel down to the southern part of the section tonight and play at the No. 2 seed Hilmar Yellowjackets with kickoff scheduled for 7.

The winner of this game will move onto the SJS Division V Championship at Sacramento City College on Friday, Nov. 28.

Sonora 49, Wheatland 7 - The Wheatland Pirates were given the hardest first-round game of most of the SJS divisions as they took on the first-seeded Sonora Wildcats.

Sonora had multiple victories over teams in higher divisions throughout the season and won the Trans Valley League, which is the toughest small-school league for football in the entire SJS.

Wheatland head coach Andy Fatten expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the Wildcats are a phenomenal team and could win a section title in a few other divisions throughout the SJS.

Fatten added that when it was 7-7 in the first, the Sonora defense was able to sniff out any trick-play opportunity the Pirates cooked up.

The Wheatland offense was able to move the ball downfield as sophomore quarterback Joe Franklin completed 18 passes for 227 yards in the air.

Franklin found senior wide receivers Braden Zozoya, Kaleb Hill and senior running back Jaylen Brown for 16 receptions and 213 yards passing in the loss.

Fatten told YSBC that he is so proud of this senior class for the dedication to the program throughout their time in the Pirates’ program.

“These guys changed the culture of the program and brought it up to where it is today,” Fatten said.

Northern Section Playoffs

East Nicolaus 35, Trinity (Weaverville) 0 - The East Nicolaus Spartans built a decisive lead early in the first half as they built a three-score lead in the Northern Section Division IV matchup.

East Nicolaus senior quarterback Mason Taylor completed six passes for 96 yards in the air and a touchdown pass.

Taylor led the rushing attack with 62 yards on the ground and the Spartans had 10 different rushers throughout the night.

The East Nicolaus defense shut down the Wolves under 100 total yards throughout the game and dominated the front lines.
