YUBA-SUTTER AREA, CA (YSBC) - The first ever set of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Football Bowls were played on Friday, Nov. 7 and our area had three participants.
Here’s how they went and overall thoughts after the conclusion of a new implementation of extra-season play for schools.
Marysville 58, Esparto 6 - Marysville snapped its four-game losing streak as they easily took care of business over the Esparto Spartans to be the only local area team that won a Gold Bowl Banner.
The Indians built a sizable lead before the end of the first half and had a running clock in the second half.
Marysville head coach Anthony Fonseca expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that it was a great way to send out his senior class with a win.
Fonseca added that he expressed to them how proud he was of them for ending their senior season with a win and for all of their dedication to the Indians’ program.
The Marysville offense had 239 yards of total offense, but multiple individuals scored a touchdown in the win, including a scoop-and-score defensively.
Fonseca said he is excited for an opportunity to get a full offseason with his guys and be ready for year two in 2026.

Antelope 29, Yuba City 23 - The old Capital Valley Conference foes met at Honker for the opportunity to snag one of the 29 Golden Bowl banners given out and it was a battle that went down to the wire.
Yuba City was in its fourth one-possession game since October and they fell sht for the third time.
The Honkers had another late lead, but let it slip away in the final few minutes of the game.
Yuba City head coach Jonah Lessard told YSBC that he was proud of his team and he will ask his returning athletes next year to participate in another sport during the offseason.
Lessard said that he expects to have a great offseason with his young squad and expects to make a big splash in 2026.

Bear River 29, Lindhurst 28 - The Lindhurst Blazers weren’t able to overcome a couple of fumbles throughout the game and a late two-point conversion as the Bear River Bruins topped Lindhurst for the second time in 2025.
Blazers co-head coach Jeff Pierce Jr. told YSBC that the outcome showed a one-point loss for Lindhurst after the game, but Pierce said he felt like that was a big win for the Blazers and their community.
Pierce consistently reiterated the transformation the program has gone through in the past four seasons as they have added 23 wins to the program. Lindhurst senior running back Kyvonta Phienemanh rushed for 114 yards on the ground.
Defensively, the Blazers had four defenders with more than one tackle for a loss as they had 12 total in the game.
Pierce added that he felt like Lindhurst earned the respect of Bear River as this game went down to the wire.
As the senior class graduates this upcoming summer, the future is booming and the Blazers will be a force reckoned with in 2026.
