YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - From superheroes to hot dogs and tiny pumpkins, local pups strutted their stuff at the fourth annual Doggy Costume Contest, held Oct. 27 at Fur and Feathers Pet Resort in Yuba City.

The event, organized by Maria Ball — Executive Director of the Yuba Sutter Food Bank and a local real estate agent — brought together pet lovers for an afternoon of fun, community and philanthropy. This year’s contest raised $400 for FieldHaven Feline Center in Marysville.

“We had a great event,” Ball said. “Next year we plan to have it on the weekend and will go bigger! We plan to change the charity beneficiary each year as well.”

Ball was inspired to launch the contest after participating in Fur and Feathers’ ribbon-cutting ceremony back in 2022.

“I wanted to support their business and get the word out that they were here,” she explained. “We needed a doggy day care and a nice boarding facility. I also wanted to do something fun for the community, raise money for animals that we all love, and also market my real estate business. It was a win-win for everyone.”

What began as a small local event has quickly grown into a Yuba City tradition with room for expansion. Guests enjoyed the chance to show off their costumed companions, win prizes, and get professional photos with their pets.
