YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) – On Oct. 17, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the City of Yuba City.

DUI checkpoint locations are chosen based on data identifying areas with a history of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roadway.

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that impaired driving isn’t limited to alcohol consumption. Certain prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and cannabis can impair driving ability and judgment. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana use is legal in California, driving under the influence of cannabis remains illegal.

Drivers arrested for DUI face serious consequences, including an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended driver’s license for a first offense.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Highway Patrol Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program, which supports education, prevention and enforcement efforts to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety throughout California.
