SACRAMENTO VALLEY, CA (YSBC) - Lindhurst 43, Highlands 36 - The Lindhurst Blazers opened up with a big league against Highlands on Friday, Oct. 10, but the Scots didn’t have enough success late in the game and fell 43-34.
Lindhurst was led by senior running back Alex Covarrubias as he rushed for 153 yards on 12 carries.
The Blazers rushed for 424 yards as a team as Lindhurt had four total ball carriers with more than 70 yards each. Defensively, sophomore Valentino Trevino stepped up and had a team-high 12 tackles in the win, including three for a loss.
Senior two-way player Kvonta Phienemanh had a great overall game as he rushed for 77 yards and had found the end zone twice. Defensively, Phienemanh had six tackles, two for a loss and had two fumble recoveries.
Lindhurst is scheduled to play Esparto tonight with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Sutter 50, Rio Linda 0 - It was another business trip for the Sutter Union Huskies football team as they had another dominant effort in Golden Empire League play as they posted their second-straight shutout with a 50-point win over Rio Linda.
Sutter quickly put the game out of reach in the first quarter as their offense posted 36 points. Huskies quarterback put on a passing clinic as he completed nine passes for 198 yards in the air and three touchdown passes.
The Sutter offense had 427 yards of offense on 38 total plays and the defense haunted another victim last week.
Huskies senior two-way player Max Bringgold had four carries for 67 yards and hauled in five catches for 84 yards. Bringgold also found the end zone three times combined on the night. Sutter senior running back Gary Bicknell also posted 100-plus offensive yards and had two touchdowns in the win as well.
The Huskies travel to Sacramento tonight as they are scheduled to take on Natomas at 7 p.m.
Bear River 14, Marysville 6 - The Pioneer Valley League battle continued last Friday as Bear River and Marysville went down to the wire on Friday, Oct. 10 as the Bruins prevailed 14-6.
Marysville head coach Anthony Fonseca told Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that they had two many penalties and it cost them later on in the game. Despite the one-possession loss, the PVL is still up for grabs as there are realistically four teams in the mix with three weeks to go in the season.
Indians junior quarterback Karter Ellyson completed six passes for 179 yards in the air. Fonseca told YSBC that they had trouble getting in the trenches and having the ability to run the ball against Bear River. Marysville senior running back Andrew Salguero hauled in four passes for 147 receiving yards and a touchdown catch in the loss.
The Indians travel to a hungry Wheatland team tonight as the winner of this game will keep their PVL title quest alive and the other should fall into one of the CIF Sacc-Joaquin Section Division VI consolation bowls at the end of the regular season.
Kickoff from Wheatland is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Yuba City 34, Del Campo 18 - The Yuba City Honker rebounded with a much-needed victory on Friday, Oct. 10 with a double-digit win over Del Campo.
Yuba City head coach Jonah Lessard expressed to YSBC that the offense got in a good flow this week and Honkers junior quarterback Judah Allen controlled the offense with confidence.
Lessard added that the youth experience of having a younger line on both sides of the ball has that built in experience now and it has progressed weekly since the beginning of the season.
The Honkers are scheduled to hoist an angry Placer team, who got beaten by two possessions for the third time this season last week against Twelve Bridges.
Kickoff tonight is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Bear Creek 26, River Valley 0 - The River Valley Falcons were shut out for the first time this season as they suffered a 26-point defeat to Bear Creek.
River Valley head coach Mikey Badaluco told YSBC that they were able to complete a couple of long passes and had some good runs throughout the game.
Falcons senior quarterback Jayden Walker completed six passes for 110 yards in the air. River Valley senior running back Jesus Fernandez rushed for 90 yards in the loss and the Falcons look to get back in the win column against Kenndedy tonight.
Badaluco expressed to YSBC that he is looking forward to the Falcons getting the opportunities to get a couple of victories to end the season at home. Kickoff tonight is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
