SUTTER COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The City of Live Oak fire contract cancellation notice is due to the City of Live Oak’s “severe budget deficit.” This does not directly impact the Sutter County Fire stations in Sutter and Oswald-Tudor — however, these stations are still facing critically low funding.
Funding for these remaining stations is already critically low. Without additional resources, we risk these stations becoming partially or fully unstaffed in the upcoming year, with emergency service available only when volunteers can respond. This would severely limit our ability to provide timely fire and medical response, putting lives and property at greater risk.
Why this matters: A sales tax measure was placed on the ballot in 2022 to address this issue (Measure A). The Measure was defeated with a 51.61percent “no” vote compared to 48.39 percent yes vote. A new citizen-led initiative is now underway to secure funding and protect local fire services in Sutter County Service Area F.
Our firefighters remain dedicated to protecting the community — but we need your help to keep stations open and engines staffed, and I encourage every resident to stay informed, get involved and help shape the future of your fire service in Sutter County.
Your support can make a difference.
